A Rare Swiss or German Baselard. 13” overall, 8 ¾” tapering blade of narrow triangular section with a fuller to each side close to the back, the I-shaped hilt with replacement polished horn grips.
Late 14th or early 15th century (grip later).
Examples of this age are exceedingly rare, this one in excavated condition and restored with a horn grip by Chris Dobson - formerly Master Armourer to the Royal Armouries.
