A Starr 1858 Double Action Army Revolver. 13” overall, 6” barrel with blade foresight, inspector’s mark on left hand side. 6 shot 44 calibre cylinder, tip up screw retained frame stamped ‘Starr's Patent Jan 15 1856’ on the right hand side & ‘Starr Arms Co New York’ on the left. Numbered 8667 double action/ self cocking action of unique type. Forward trigger to cock the pistol & smaller rear trigger to fire. Walnut one piece grips, inspector’s marks.

About 23,000 made, most bought by the Government, not popular with troops as difficult to use which led to the introduction of the single action 1863 Army revolver.
