
A Springfield Armory Model 1863 Rifle Type II. 56” overall, 40” .58 calibre three groove rifled round barrel with blade fore sight, bayonet lug, single leaf folding rear sight Dated 1864 on top of breech. Flat lock plate dated 1864 on the tail, the Springfield Armory eagle motif & ‘U.S. SPRINGFIELD’ marked ahead of the hammer. Nearly full length walnut stock secured by two spring retained barrel bands & fitted with steel fore-end cap & standard ‘U.S.’ butt plate. Iron trigger guard & two sling swivels. Iron tulip headed ramrod. Correct 1855 pattern bayonet with possibly original correct leather sling.
