Very Rare 18th Century Scottish Targe.

19 ½” in diameter. Slightly warped wooden targe now recovered in red and faded green hide. Decorated with bands of silver studs and domed nails. Studs hallmarked Edinburgh 1868. Rear with original iron eyes for handle and silver studs. Old inscription in Indian ink Clan Chisholm.
Circa 1740,refurbished 1868.
Condition: Wooden body slightly warped and leather covering has been fitted to conform to the warp meaning it was an old targe when recovered.
