
An 1854 Pattern Presentation Rifles Sword. 39” overall, 33" blade with single fuller, etched ‘Presented to Major R.E.Knocker 1st V.B.Buffs (E.K.R.) by the N.C.Officers and men of K.Company on his Promotion to the rank of Major as a token of Respect and Good Feeling. Dover December 1904’ & on the other side with trailing foliage, EVII, strung bugle and family crest of a standing dragon & maker details ‘J.R. Gaunt & Son, Ltd. Late’ above ‘Edward Thurkle, Denmark St., Soho, London.’ Numbered 12054 on spine. Steel Gothic hilt with crowned strung bugle with domed pommel & chequered back strap. Fish skin grip with three strand silver wire. In its original black painted steel mounted scabbard. Sold with some family research.

Reginald Edward Knocker M.B.E. (1870-1956) (part of the prominent Dover family) Solicitor, succeeded his father as Town Clerk of Dover (1907-1935).
The 3rd Foot Buffs (East Kent Regiment) 1st Volunteer Brigade had just distinguished itself in the Boer War
