A Rare Pipeback 1827 Naval Sword.

34” overall with 29” straight pipeback blade with quill point. Etched and engraved with crowned fouled anchor, Royal coat of arms and foliage. Solid gilt half basket with crowned fouled anchor, folding side guard, lions head pommel, the backstrap with lion’s mane. White shark skin grip with twisted wire. In its original gilt brass and black leather scabbard with two mounts, top mount with a ring each side. Fine Naval bullion sword knot.
Circa 1827-32. Two mount scabbards were only used between1827 to 1832 when new dress regulations introduced three mounts and two ring suspension for naval officer’s swords.
In good condition, blade has some minor old rusting.
