A Fine Pair of Cased Percussion Target Pistols by William Golding, 15” overall, 10” 38 bore browned twist octagonal sighted barrels each signed ’Willm Golding London’ along the top flat, breeches each with two platinum lines & platinum plug, foliate scroll engraved tangs each with back sight, London Proofs & numbered 317/318, case hardened border engraved flat locks singed ’Willm Golding’ numbered on top edge 317/ 318, each decorated with foliate scrollwork & with safety catch, foliate engraved dolphin hammers en suite. Figured half stocks with chequered rounded butts numbered 317/318 in lock cut outs. D-shaped trigger guards each with pineapple finial & decorated with a martial trophy on the border engraved bow, vacant silver escutcheons, barrel bolt escutcheons & fore end caps, set triggers, & original brass mounted ramrods. In their original lined & fitted mahogany case with accessories including a Cooper two way powder flask, bullet mould, oil bottle, loading mallet, cleaning jags, lubricating grease pot & key. The exterior of the lid with flush fitting circular brass carrying handles centred on a vacant circular brass escutcheon.

William Golding is recorded at 3 Marylebone Street, Piccadilly between 1827 and 1828, 199 Oxford Street between 1829 and 1831, 1 Duke Street, Grosvenor Square between 1831 and 1842, 27A Davies Street, Berkeley Square between 1845 and 1853, and at 3 Mount Row, Berkeley Square between 1855 and 1859. In 1832 he published ‘William Golding’s Improvements on Detonating Guns’ .
