A Very Fine Double Barrelled Oval Bore Percussion Rifle by Lancaster. 48” overall, 32” .500 twist barrels signed 'Charles Lancaster, 151 New Bond Street, London' & 'Patent smooth bore rifle', numbered 2824 with London Proofs and CL maker’s stamp beneath the barrels. Matted rib fitted with blued fore sight, blued folding rear sight with three gold lined blades calibrated to 300 yards, tightly foliate scroll engraved patent breeches with pierced platinum plug, scroll engraved tang. Flat bolted detented sidelocks, scroll engraved and signed ‘Lancaster London’, flat scroll engraved hammers with dolphin heads. Highly figured walnut half stock with chequered grip & fore end scroll engraved mounts, butt plate decorated with a deer hound on the tang, hinged patchbox cover engraved with a stag and two hinds, trigger guard with pineapple finial numbered 2824 and decorated with two rutting stags, silver escutcheon, iron sling mounts, and original brass mounted ramrod with worm.
