14" overall, 7 ¾” octagonal barrel, 7 groove rifling with bead foresight, engraved on top flat, 'E.Whitney N Haven', under lever loading rammer with wedge clip retained with a wing nut. Barrel, rammer and cylinder all numbered 30264. Six shot cylinder, solid frame with sighting groove, spurred hammer notched with a rear sight, brass trigger guard, walnut grips.
Circa 1863.
Good patinated condition, toned finish, slight pitting, mechanically strong, uncracked grips with a few dings. No engraving remains on the cylinder.
The Whitney Arms Company manufactured at least 33,000 Navy Model revolvers from the 1850's thru 1866. The Ordnance Department purchased 11,184 Whitney Navy Model revolvers from various dealers between 1861 and 1863. The U.S. Navy purchased an additional 6,276 Navy Model revolvers directly from the Whitney Arms Company. The U.S. Navy revolvers had Navy markings.
