
A Very Fine Cased Pair of Percussion Duelling Pistols by T. J. Mortimer, 16 ¼” overall, 10 ¼” sighted browned Damascus octagonal 45 bore barrels scroll engraved ‘T J Mortimer Maker to His Majesty London’, border & scroll engraved case colour hardened breeches & tangs, border & scroll engraved case colour hardened bolted locks signed ‘T J Mortimer St James's Street’, platinum vents. Half stocked with chequered bag shaped figured walnut grips, border & scroll engraved blued spur trigger guards, set triggers, brass topped wooden ramrods. In their original purple velvet lined exhibition quality brass bound mahogany campaign style case, complete with accessories including mallet, Sykes three way flask, 45 bore mould, nipple key, ivory cap & spare nipple round turned boxes, the lid with ‘Thos Jackson Mortimer 34 St James Street’ label.

Thomas Jackson Mortimer was apprenticed to his father, Thomas Elsworth Mortimer, in 1795. He joined his father as T. Mortimer & Son at 44 Ludgate Hill, London between 1807 and 1818. He then traded on his own at 21 St. James's Street, London between 1818 and 1821; 38 St. James's Street between 1822 and 1824; and 34 St. James's Street between 1824 and the year of his death in 1833. Following his death his widow Elizabeth continued to reside at the same address until 1838.
