A Modern American Engraved Powder Horn. 13” overall, horn engraved ‘Jas Barbar his horn made Fort Stanwyx November Ye. 1759’ & with a plan of Fort Stanwick a gun boat, foliage & game, horn spung catch and turned stopper.
Late 20th century.
Very good condition, possibly engraved by Gary Elsenbeck who had connections to fort Stanwick.
Fort Stanwick was a timber colonial fort built between 1758-62 and was used in the French & Indian Wars also during the War of Independence, the fort burned down in 1781. Reconstructed by the National Park Services during 1974-78, as a visitor attraction.
