A Maximillian Style Gothic Axe Bladed Horseman’s Hammer or ‘Streithammer’. All iron construction 24” long, 10 ½” width across the head, 5” axe blade pierced with two quatrefoil, the opposing tapering square section fluke moulded at the base, pommel of ‘Green Man’ mask on a gilded ground. Right hand side of hammer with pierced quatrefoil on a gilded ground & fitted with a slender bevelled belt hook, round haft, tapering hollow grip with circular quillon, gilded saddle clip with spiral cut hand grip, flat pommel.
Late nineteenth century, possibly parts are earlier.
