A 1796 Irish Infantry Officers Blue and Gilt Sword  by J. Read of Dublin.

38 ¼” overall, 32” straight single edged blade with broad fuller. Blue and gilt blade with crowned GR and trophies of arms, Irish Harp and ‘J. Read Dublin’. Folding guard of regulation pattern, twisted silver wire grip. Original gilt brass and black leather scabbard.

Circa 1795.                                                                           

Sword in worn condition, blue and gilt faded, scabbard broken and glued .Sword will not fit in scabbard.
