14 ¾” overall, 9 ½” brass barrel engraved around the muzzle 'For His Majesty's Mail Coaches' & on the top flat 'H W Mortimer & Co London Gunmaker to His Majesty 220’ and ‘York to Scarboro’, stepped bolted lockplate engraved 'H W Mortimer & Co’, swan neck cock & pan with bridle, brass mounts comprising domed butt cap, 'S' shaped side plate & brass ramrod pipes. Walnut full stock with later horn tipped ramrod.

Circa 1789-1806 .

Mortimer & Co a partnership between H.W Mortimer, his son also H.W., and his brother Thomas 1799-1806.      

The York to Scarborough Mail Coach ran from about 1798 until replaced by the railway in 1845.
