7 ¼” overall, 2 ½” 40 bore turn off three stage cannon barrel with London Gunmaker Proofs and L. Barbar’s barrel smith mark. Round action signed ‘BARBAR’ underneath the breech, ‘L’ shaped frizzen spring, border engraved trigger guard decorated with a flower, the flared bag-shaped walnut butt carved around the mounts
A fine small Queen Anne pistol in good condition.
Louis Barbar (died 1741) a French Protestant, born in Essendun, Poitou, came to London Circa 1688 to avoid persecution and was naturalised in 1700. In 1704 he was made free of the Gunmakers Company. He was appointed Gentleman Armourer to King George I in 1717, and to George II in 1727.
