A Very Fine Cased Pair of Flintlock Duelling Pistols by H.W. Mortimer & Co. 15 ½” overall, 10”octagonal 22 bore Damascus barrels signed on the top-flat 'H.W. MORTIMER & Co, LONDON' over 'GUNMAKERS TO HIS MAJESTY', dove tailed bronze foresights, engraved band at breech, gold lined touch hole, engraved top tang with standing rear sight, flat stepped bolted locks with bevelled edges signed below the spoon shaped pans 'H.W. MORTIMER & Co'. Swan necked cocks, engraved frizzens with rollers on springs. Walnut full stocks with slightly hooked chequered butts with gadroon carved ends, spurred trigger guard bows engraved with trophy of arms with pineapple finials, single set triggers, tool ended ramrods & twin plain barrel wedges. In their original green baize lined walnut case with lifting handle, 'H.W. Mortimer, Son & T.Mortimer' parchment label inside lid, containing their original flask, 23 bore mould, turn screw & loading rod.

In good condition, original faded brown to barrels.

Harvey Walklate Mortimer (1753-1819) was appointed Gunmaker to George III in 1783. He was at 89 Fleet Street between 1782 and 1799 and was Contractor to the East India Company from 1796 until 1806, as Mortimer & Co a partnership between H.W Mortimer, his son (also H.W) & his brother Thomas 1799-1806. And with his son 1808-1811. He retired in 1811 and died in 1819         .
