15 ½” overall, 30 bore 9 ¾”” twist barrel of octagonal form, maker’s ‘Sykes Oxford’ platinum poincon & platinum line at breech. Engraved ‘Sykes Oxford’ on top flat, bead foresight, Birmingham proofs, engraved tang incorporating V shaped rear sight. Flat bevelled stepped bolted lockplate with wheat ear border and floral engraving signed ‘Sykes oxford’. With V shaped fully waterproof pan, the V shaped steel with floral engraving. Swan necked bevelled & engraved cock, large roller on frizzen spring. Walnut half stock with horn fore-end, chequered butt & vacant silver escutcheon. Engraved iron butt cap & engraved trigger guard with pineapple finial. Brass tipped ramrod pipe with worm.

In very good condition, barrel with old re-finish.
The V pan was the high point of flintlock refinement patented by John Manton in 1815 Pat. No 3942 & normally only on the best John Manton sporting guns, very rare on duelling pistols.
