
A Fine Flintlock Duelling Pistol by H.W. Mortimer & Co.15 ½” overall, 10” octagonal 26 bore Damascus barrels signed on the top flat 'H.W. MORTIMER & Co, LONDON' over 'GUNMAKERS TO HIS MAJESTY', dove tailed bronze foresights, engraved band at breech, gold lined touch hole, engraved top tang with standing rear sight, London Proofs to underside. Flat bolted locks with wheat ear engraved border edge signed below the spoon shaped pans 'H.W. MORTIMER & Co'. Swan necked cock, engraved frizzens with roller on toe. Walnut full stocks with slightly hooked chequered butts with gadroon carved ends, spurred trigger guard bow engraved with trophy of arms with pineapple finial, single set trigger, horn tipped ramrod & twin plain barrel wedges.

Harvey Walklate Mortimer (1753-1819) was appointed Gunmaker to George III in 1783. He was at 89 Fleet Street between 1782 and 1799 and was Contractor to the East India Company from 1796 until 1806, as Mortimer & Co a partnership between H.W Mortimer, his son (also H.W) & his brother Thomas 1799-1806. And with his son 1808-1811. He retired in 1811 and died in 1819 .
