A Rare Mint 1786 Pattern Five Ball Hilted Spadroon.

38” overall, 32 ½” straight single edged blade with one fuller, engraved on both sides with pre 1800 Royal coat of arms. Signed ‘J .J .Runkel Solingen’ on spine Fluted grip. Cushion pommel, D shaped knuckle bow with five graduated balls and loose ring for sword knot
Circa 1790.
In near mint condition, hilt perfect condition, very minor staining to blade edge.
This sword conforms to the 1786 pattern, (The pattern was formalising an established practice) but may be earlier as Officers serving in America gave up their spontoons and furnished themselves with swords as they were a far more practical weapon in an informal war
