A Very Fine Tranter Patent Forth Model Percussion Revolver. 12 ¾” overall, 6”octagonal sighted 54 bore barrel engraved with foliate scrollwork at the muzzle, breech & at the rear of the border engraved top-strap, London proof marks, foliate scroll engraved case hardened 5 shot cylinder with knurled forward edge, blued frame, border engraved trigger guard & case hardened ovoidal butt cap all decorated with foliate scrollwork, the serial numbered ‘16492T’ on the right side. Bright trigger & foliate engraved patent rammer, blued hook pivoting cylinder stop & spring arbor pin catch. Finely chequered figured rounded butt, scroll engraved case hardened butt cap. In its original best quality, screwed lid, mahogany case lined with blue baize, mahogany edged case partitions with full original accessories including James Dixon & Sons powder flask with split ring for suspension, copper alloy bullet mould, & tins of Tranter’s ‘Lubricating Composition’, ‘Lubricating Bullets’, Eleys for Tranters cap tin turn screw, nipple key, oil bottle & loading rod.

William Tranter traded from 13 St. Mary's Row Birmingham from 1849 to 1875, and between 1853 and 1865 was granted six British patents relating to revolvers and their accessories. He was licensed by Deane, Adams & Deane to make complete Adams' self-cocking revolvers and to use patented frame for his own revolvers.
