25 ½” overall, 20 ½” slender curved blade deeply struck on both sides with a King’s Head mark. Hilt comprising silver D shaped knucklebow, silver pommel cap, plain ferrule, down turned quillon with bud terminal & natural buckhorn grip. Silversmiths hallmark ‘HH’ conjoined stamped on knucklebow, pommel cap & ferrule.

This sword illustrated No 436 Page 157 ‘The Price Guide to Antique Edged Weapons’ by L Southwick, Leslie Southwick has almost certainly identified the owner of the mark HH conjoined; see: L. Southwick, ‘The Hertford Civic Sword of State, 1680, struck with the rare silver-hilt maker’s mark of Hugh Humphries’, Journal of the Arms & Armour Society, Vol. 22, No. 6 (September 2018), pp. 304-331.
