40” overall, 34 ¼” blade deeply etched with foliage, VR crown and ‘Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London’ to one side, the other with foliage and ‘Royal Engineers’, proof mark and owners crest of a Heron. Numbered 7665 on spine. Gilt brass hilt, the bowl of open work scrolled form with engraved foliage. Gilt wire bound fish skin grip. In its brass Field Officer’s scabbard.
Circa1855-6 not in the Wilkinson records as there is a gap from 7498 - 7672
Major General Henry Owen Crawley. Born 3 August 1796, at Rotherfield., and died in 1870. Served from 1816 to 1863.
Sold with a copy of his service record from Kew, worth researching further.
