An Early Wilkinson Scroll Hilt Sword.

41 ½” overall, 35” straight blade with broad fuller & spear point, engraved with VR cipher & scrolling foliage to both sides. Patent Solid Hilt & ‘Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London’ numbered 5541 on the spine. Pierced steel bowl guard, similar to the later 1857 pattern Royal Engineers hilt but with less engraving. Chequered leather two piece grip. Steel scabbard with two suspension rings.

A very uncommon early numbered Wilkinson, with very early use of the scroll hilt, blade in good condition, a little rubbed on the address. Grip wire lacking.
5541 - Finishing date of 2nd November 1854, scroll hilt with patent tang. Recorded as being for 'Smith', with no rank or regimental details given. (From Wilkinson sales ledgers)
