Good & Very Rare Blue & Gilt 1822 Pattern Infantry Sword.

37 ½” overall, 32 ½” pipe back spear pointed blade with blue & gilt decoration incorporating scrolls, trophy of arms and floral urn. Engraved on the forte ‘John Gunby Sword Cutler Birmingham’ and ‘Warranted’ on the reverse. 1822 pattern gilt three bar hilt with GRIV cypher & folding sideguard. Plain back strap, black fish skin grip with triple gilt wire. In its steel adjutants pattern scabbard. Original gilt bullion sword knot.
Sword circa 1822, scabbard 1832 when Dress regulations changed.
Sword in very good condition blue & gilt near perfect.
I can find only one other sword by John Gunby also a Blue & Gilt 1822 but in a gilt mounted leather scabbard sold at Wallis & Wallis lot 54 October 4th 2000. John Gunby partner in Osborn & Gunby 1808-20 and then as John Gunby from 1821 but out of business by 1823.
