A fine blunderbuss pistol by J.Nicholes of Oxford

with two-stage 7" iron barrel with belled muzzle, iron tang, rounded border and strawberry leaf engraved lock signed 'J.Nicholes Oxford', original swan necked cock, bridle-less pan. Figured walnut full stock with raised apron around the barrel-tang and moulded around the lock. Brass mounts including pierced side-plate and long spurred pommel with mask, trigger guard with trefoil finial and brass tipped ramrod.
Circa 1690
J Nicholes apprenticed to William Upton Junior in 1687. Freeman of Oxford 1694, Mayor of Oxford 1719 and 1732. Died 1750.
