An 1876 Winchester Centennial 3rd Model Rifle, 48 ½” overall, 28” octagonal steel 40-60 WCF barrel mounted with a ladder rear sight to 1000 yards & a blade fore sight. Top of the barrel marked ‘WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866, OCTOBER 16.1860’ & near the receiver ‘CAL .40 – 60’. The iron lever action with dust cover with serrated finger guides, brass cartridge carrier block marked ‘40-60’, the lower tang with the serial number ‘48484’ between the lever latch & tang screw. Upper tang stamped ‘Model 1876’. Full length magazine & steel fore end cap. The smooth walnut stock has a steel crescent butt plate with sliding brass trap.

One of the rarer Winchesters 63871 made between 1876-97. Made as a large calibre sporting rifle, the Model 1876 was basically a larger framed, more powerful version of the Model 1873.
