
A Very Fine Rare Double Barrelled Coaching Carbine by Wogdon. 28 ¼” overall, 13 ¾” double octagonal 28 bore barrels with bead fore sight, inlayed in gold ‘Wogdon London’, with London Proofs & ‘RW’ on underside. Gold touch holes. Engraved false breech with groove rear sight. Stepped chamfered lock plates signed ‘Wogdon’, with swan neck cocks, safety catch, spoon shaped pans. Steel mounts comprising stepped butt cap engraved with a trophy of arms, floral engraved trigger guard with acorn finial and fore end cap. Walnut hand rail half stock. Horn tipped ramrod with worm.

A very rare Coaching Carbine in very good condition
Robert Wogdon was apprenticed to Edward Newton of Grantham, Lincolnshire in 1748. He is recorded as 'Gunmaker, at Mr. Maw's Haberdasher, Cockspur St., Charing Cross' in 1764. He carried on his business in Haymarket from 1774 until his retirement in 1802. From 1795 he was in partnership with John Barton who carried on the business following Wogdon's retirement.
