A Brass Barrelled Holster Pistol by Wogdon. 15 ½” overall. 10” round brass 32 bore barrel engraved ‘WOGDON LONDON’ on the top flat. London Proofs and ‘RW’ barrelsmith’s mark on the left hand side. Acanthus engraved tang, flat stepped bolted border engraved lock, engraved ‘WOGDON’. Swan neck cock, spoon shaped pan. Brass furniture comprising ,butt cap, trigger guard with floral engraved bow & acorn finial, two ramrod pipes, narrow side nail cups. Walnut full stock carved with a shell around tang rounded hockey stick shaped butt, pin retained barrel with horn tipped ramrod with a worm.

A rare early pistol in good condition, brass a little rubbed.

Robert Wogdon was apprenticed to Edward Newton of Grantham, Lincolnshire in 1748. He is recorded as 'Gunmaker, at Mr. Maw's Haberdasher, Cockspur St., Charing Cross' in 1764. He carried on his business in Haymarket from 1774 until his retirement in 1802. From 1795 he was in partnership with John Barton who carried on the business following Wogdon's retirement.
