A Rare 1854 Pattern Rifles Sergeants ERVIII Sword. 38” overall, 32 ½” dumb bell profile blade with trailing foliage, Royal Coat of Arms over Crown ERVIII on both sides over strung bugle to one side, spine stamped ‘Made in England’. Brass proof slug stamped ‘HW’ for Henry Wilkinson. Steel Gothic hilt with crowned strung bugle with domed pommel & chequered back strap. Fish skin grip with three strand silver wire. Black leather acorn sword knot. In its original brown leather field service scabbard. Sold with some research, photos and military records of Warrant Officer Ernest Henry Hatcher.                                                  

Very good condition, blade with much original polish.            

E.H.Hatcher enlisted on 19.5.15 served on the Westen Front 1917-18, North Russia 1919, Mentioned in Dispatches and awarded a Military Medal, spent 10 years in India and retired 1936. He was recalled as an 2nd Lieutenant Quartermaster Officer June 1940 and died in 1949.
