A Fine Rare Medieval Arming Sword. 37” overall, 30” broad triangular diamond section blade with very slightly hollow flats to either side of a low medial ridge, the cross with a modest ecusson or downward pointing peak to the centre, & down turned tips to the hexagonal section crossguard, heavy wheel recessed pommel with projecting tang button, original tapering leather covered wooden grip.
Circa 1410-1460.
In very fine condition, polished blade with evidence of hard use, nicks to cutting edge, chip missing from tip. Very rare to find swords of this period in unexcavated condition with original wooden grips. Sold with some photos and observations by Dr David Williams of the Wallace Collection.
