A Very Rare French Heavy Cavalry Cuirassiers 1816 Troopers Sword. 45” overall, 38 ½” straight multi-fullered blade with spear point. Blade with inspectors marks, round topped back edge engraved ‘M-F’ture du Klingenthal decmbre 1819’. Four bar brass hilt with lip ridge rim on the guard, brass domed & banded pommel, original leather grip with 21 turns of brass wire. In its heavy steel scabbard with large lyre shaped drag with riveted throat piece, two suspension rings.

Dated 1819

J.J.C.Bureau 1819-1822, F.L Lobstein. Reviseur June 1804 to July 1821 at Klingenthal  and J.G.Bick controleur  February 1809- July 1819 hilt with various marks.

Extremely rare 1816 model Cuirassiers broadsword. In fine condition, blade, hilt and scabbard very good, old browning to scabbard. Hilt redesigned to provide more protection from bayonet thrusts, pommel strengthened. Blade with rounded back edge. Very few of these swords were produced due to a surplus of original swords available over several years following Waterloo. It’s extremely difficult to find a completely original example with all of the modifications.
