A 1821 Pattern Surrey Yeomanry Prize Sword by Prosser. 41” overall with 35” slightly curved pipeback blade with spear point. Etched & engraved with royal coat of arms, WR IV, foliage & ‘Prosser Maker to the King & Royal Family Charing Cross’  on one side, with ‘PRESENTED BY THE FIELD OFFICERS OF THE SURREY YEOMANRY CAVALRY TO THE BEST SWORDSMAN IN THE REGt. EDMUND BRICK BRADLEY 1st Troop 1834’ on the other. Three bar steel hilt, stepped pommel, fish skin grip. In its original steel scabbard with 2 suspension rings.

Dated 1834.

Fine sword blade, hilt in very good condition with most polish, scabbard darkly patinated.

John Prosser is recorded at 9 Charing Cross, London between 1796 & 1853. He was appointed Sword Cutler & Beltmaker to King George III in 1795, & to King George IV in 1827.

The Surrey Yeomanry Cavalry was raised in 1794, but disbanded in 1828. A Southwark Troop was raised in 1831 and became a full Regiment in the same year. That too was disbanded in 1848.
