
A 1796 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Officer’s ‘Boat shell’ Dress Sword. 38 ½” overall, 32" straight double edged blade with fuller & spear point. Gilt boat shaped guard with knucklebow & straight quillon, urn shaped finial with twisted silver wire grip. In its original steel scabbard with two suspension rings.

In good tight condition, some gilt remaining, scabbard undented.
Major Joseph Edward Greaves. 1st Dragoon Guards.
"Joseph Edward Greaves [Elmsall] Esq of Woodlands in this parish who departed this life July 5th 1851 aged 59. He held the rank of Major in the army and served the campaign of 1815 with the first Dragoon Guards and was present at the action of Quatres Bras and the battle of Waterloo he was also Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st Yorkshire Yeomanry Cavalry and a magistrate for the West Riding". (from his grave stone)
Blade and scabbard in good condition. Absence of markings but evidence of service use.
