
A Rare French Senior Dragoon Officers Sword with Garde de Bataille Hilt.

42” overall, 36”straight double fullered chisel pointed blade of AN XI type, with gold poincon of Klingenthal to the forte. Brass Garde De Bataille hilt with pierced palmette guard linked to the D shaped knucklebow by four branches, engraved pommel cap, black leather grip with 19 turns of twisted brass wire. In its original steel scabbard with brass oak leaf suspension bands with loose rings.
Circa 1810.
A high quality sword in good condition, which was used throughout the Napoleonic era.
The Garde de Bataille sword has an attractive hilt style that typifies the neo-classical decorative influences that were prevalent in French military sword design in the late-18th and early 19th century
