A Very Fine, Near Mint, Brass Barrelled Flintlock Pillow Blunderbuss by Edward Bond

27” overall, 12" ring turned brass octagonal to round four stage barrel flared at the muzzle, with cannon barrel turnings, signed on the top 'Bond London'. Struck with Tower private proofs and ‘EB’. With Gold touch hole. Stepped bolted flat lockplate engraved 'Bond’, swan necked cock. The trigger guard has an acorn finial and flowerheads engraved on the bow, the brass butt plate is engraved with a stand of arms. Walnut full stock chequered at the wrist. Original brass tipped ramrod with worm retained by 2 brass ramrod pipes.

A very high quality Gentleman's pillow blunderbuss in very good condition.
Pillow Bunderbuss were of small size to be kept in the bedroom.
Edward Bond Apprenticed to Samuel Blanckley, turned over to Abraham Jones, 1746; free of Gunmakers CO., 1754/ Elected Assistant, 1776; Livery 1778; Master, 1780. Gunmaker, 108, Leadenhall Street., 1762-71; 59 Lombard Street (At the Golden Blunderbuss), 1771-93; 31 Nicholas Lane, 1780-7. Viewer to Hudson Bay Co., 1771-89. Died 1790. Business continued by widow, Mary, until taken over by son, Philip John Joseph, 1794.
