46" overall. 30" octagonal browned stub twist barrel engraved 'Wilkinson & Son Gunmakers to her Majesty Pall Mall London' leaf & ladder rearsight to 1300 yards, adjustable blade foresight, flat scroll & border engraved lock plate 'Wilkinson & Son' engraved safety bolt, scroll engraved dolphin hammer, platinum plug. Well figured walnut half stock chequered at wrist & forehand, horn fore-end cap, iron furniture, trigger guard with finger grip, scroll engraved on the bow. 2 ramrod pipes & tail pipe, rings for sling swivels. Barrel .451 bore stamped underneath with London proof marks & 'TE'[ Thomas Evans barrel smith who made barrels for Joe Manton and Purdy ] numbered 5939.
Contained in its original fitted case of best quality fiddle back mahogany, green baize lined with trade label of 'James Wilkinson & Son Gun & Sword Manufacturer to Her Majesty, The War Department and the Council for India No 27 Pall Mall London, Army Accoutrements Etc'. With most accessories including Dixon powder flask, 3 moulds (2 for bullets 1 for ball) 3 tins for cap wads & patches, oil bottle, 2 brass mounted ramrods with capped worms, 2 piece cleaning rod & 3 cleaning tools, packet of bullets & balls, original printed instructions in fragile condition together with a photocopy of same. Case with large circular brass escutcheon engraved 'Presented by the British Government to m. Charles Louis Benjamin Cabrie Commandant Superior of the Island of Mayotte in Acknowledgement of Important Services Rendered on Occasion of the Wreck of the British Store Ship "Enchantress" February 20.21 1861'
