A Good Pair of Scottish Flintlock Dress Pistols. 12” overall, 7” barrels with octagonal flared ‘Thistle’ muzzle with rings at either end, standing rear sight. Post 1813 Birmingham proofs on underside of the barrel. Bevelled flat lock engraved with acanthus on the tail, signed ‘McLeod’ swan necked cock, roller on frizzen spring, etched all over the stock with thistles, acanthus and trophies of arms. Ram’s horn butts with pricker screwed between horns, original iron ramrods with turned decoration, spring belt hook and ball triggers.

Circa 1820.

In good bright condition, etched decoration a little faint. Almost certainly made for the visit of George IV to Edinburgh in 1821.
