
A Rare Heavy Cavalry 1798 Flintlock Carbine. 42” overall, 26" barrel with blade foresight, ring turned at the breech with proof marks. India pattern lock plate with ring necked cock, Crown GR & inspector’s stamp. Walnut full stock with handrail butt, regulation India pattern brass furniture comprising stepped butt plate, ’S’ shaped side plate, trigger guard pierced for sling swivel, throat pipe & single ramrod pipe. Steel ramrod.

Metalwork with slightly salt & pepper finish, minor repair at tail of the lock. Sling swivels missing.
The 1798 Heavy Cavalry carbine was made with a variety of carrying methods: infantry slings (as in this example), ‘Y’ shaped sling bars, Paget type & long fore end bar as in the 1771 carbine.
