An 1865 Spencer Repeating Carbine. 37” overall, 20” .50 calibre rimfire barrel with 3 groove rifling and Stabler cut off. Ladder rear sight graduated to 800 yards. Knox form, engraved ‘MODEL 1865 SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE PAT. D MARC 6th 1860 MANUF.D AT PROV.R.I BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO Model 1865’ numbered on the breech 18915. Under lever action, 7 shot tubular magazine in butt with back action lock. 2 piece oiled walnut stock with inspector’s stamp ‘JLC' (J. Cottle), with sling bar and ring.

34,000 made, US Government bought 30,500 between April 1865 and November 1865.

A late civil War rifle in very good condition with much original finish, stock practically unmarked.
