A Fine Cased Pair of Percussion Travelling Pistols by W & J Rigby. 9 ½” overall, 4 ½” sighted browned 34 bore Damascus barrels engraved ‘DUBLIN’ in the sighting gully, numbered on bottom of barrels 9490, 9041, case colour hardened platinum lined breeches with platinum vents, border and finely scroll engraved locks signed ‘W & I RIGBY’. Full varnished stocks with chequered butts, border and scroll engraved magazine backstraps opening to reveal compartments for three charges, border and scroll engraved trigger guards, the tangs with original blue, white metal butt caps, swivel ramrods. Contained in their original green baize lined mahogany case stamped serial no. 9490-1, complete with accessories including powder flask, nipple key, bullet mould, cap tin. Loading rod and key, the two lidded compartments with bone lifters, the inside of the lid with maker's trade label.
Rigby records state this pair of magazine pistols were completed in 1845 for Mr J. Shuldham
In crisp condition, good amount of original finish, one fore end scored by barrel key, one hammer repaired.
