Naval Officer’s Dirk by Prosser. 26 ½” overall, 22” curved blade double-edged at the point, gilt brass hilt comprising lobed recurved quillons, the langets cast with scrolling acanthus, fitted with a knuckle chain between the upturned quillon and the mouth of the lion’s head pommel. Swelling and diagonally fluted ivory grip, in its original black leather scabbard with gilt brass chape & top mount with suspension ring, the upper mount with maker's panels for ‘PROSSER’ & ‘Charring Cross’.

In quite good condition, one small hole in scabbard leather.

John Prosser, Sword Cutler & Beltmaker to George III, 1797; George IV, 1827. Registered silversmith’s mark 1796. Sword Cutler & Gunmaker, 9 Charing Cross, 1796-1853. Died 1837, succeeded by his son John, 37 Charing Cross (same address as Henry Tatham) 1854-60.
