A Very Fine English Officer’s Hanger. 30” overall, 24” slightly curved single edged blade, cut with two narrow fullers running along the back edge of the blade. Indistinctly signed on both sides in the top fuller, double edged towards the point, with gold washed engraved decoration, comprising ‘WR’ for William III, trophy of arms & scrolling foliage. Unusual plaited knot iron hilt with down turned shell guard, D-shaped knuckle guard with plaited pierced pommel, antler grip with iron cigar band.
Circa 1688-1692.
In very good condition overall. Possibly for a Naval Officer.
