14” overall, 8 inch octagonal barrel with short blade foresight, engraved on top flat “Patented  Sept 14, 1858 Remington  Sons, Illon , New York, USA, New Model”, stamped underneath no. 81030, solid frame with sighting groove on top strap. Hinged loading lever under barrel, six shot cylinder spur hammer, brass trigger guard. Walnut two piece grip with inspector’s cartouche (GP)  Giles Palmer. Numerous inspectors’ marks on frame, barrel and cylinder.

Made in May-June 1863.

In good condition with 70% original finish.

The cartouche "GP" is attributed to Giles Porter, a Principal Sub-Inspector for the Ordnance Department. Porter seems to have served at Remington on more than one tour of duty during the War, as the serial number range of the revolvers bearing his cartouche are spread out from 20,000 to over 100,000.
