A Fine & Rare Flintlock Saw Handle Duelling Pistol by Fenton.

16” overall, 10” round flat topped heavy barrel of 54 bore, adjustable fore sight. Signed ‘R. Fenton London’ on flat. Patent breech with gold line and  engraved tang with rear sight.  The finely made bolted lock with push on safety, ring necked cock, fully waterproof pan, roller bearing frizzen, with platinum touch hole. Set trigger, steel scroll trigger guard engraved with a running boar, with pineapple finial. Figured walnut saw handle half stock, finely chequered butt with silver escutcheon on flat engraved with arms of a griffin. Silver barrel key escutcheon and fore-end cap. Horn tipped ramrod with a worm.

A duelling pistol of the highest possible quality made by London’s best rifle maker, in very good condition. The barrel with a very good old refinish.

Richard Fenton is recorded at 19 Shoemaker Row, Blackfriars from 1792 to 1815. In 1808 he devised improved rifle sights incorporating a platinum strip. He was a member of the Duke of Cumberland Sharpshooters.
