An English Civil War Pikemans Armour comprising pot helmet with downturned brim bordered with domed iron rivets, skull similarly decorated in two halves joined with a raised ridge, plume holder, gorget, breast and back plates, the breast with simple incised line decoration, the back with a indistinct armours mark , restored shoulder straps retained by hooks, Generous tassets of 6 simulated lames decorated with domed head rivets, attached by decorative tasset hinges. Leather waist belt. Gorget painted with the name ‘Dunstaffinage’. 

In good patinated condition, missing the ear pieces to the pot helmet. Mounted on a stand. Circa 1640.

Dunstaffnage Castle a Campbell holding in Argyll, and saw action during the Civil War, holding out against Montrose's army in 1644. The castle was burned by royalist troops, following the failure of Argyll's Rising in 1685 against the Catholic James VII. During the Jacobite risings of 1715 and 1745, the castle was occupied by government troops. Flora MacDonald, who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie to escape from Scotland, was briefly imprisoned here while en route to imprisonment in London.
