He was the son of Major General George Duncan Robertson, 21st of Struan, 7th of Drumachuine and 17th Chief of Clan Donnachaidh and Ann Outhwaite. He married Mary Stuart Menzies, daughter of Major Archibald Menzies, on 3 April 1839. He died on 3 April 1864 at age 47 at Isle of Wight, England, without issue.
