An Exceedingly Rare Oval Bore Percussion Sporting Gun by Conway.  45 ½” overall, 30” 14 bore round to oval Damascus barrel, blade foresight, Birmingham proofs and ‘14’ on the bottom flat.  Gold lined breach with gold tablet impressed with ‘Beever’s Patent’. Long engraved barrel tang engraved ‘Conway Manchester’. Engraved back action lock plate signed ‘Conway’ with flat scroll engraved hammer. Walnut half stock, chequered at the wrist with silver cheeks at breach, silver fore end cap, iron butt plate, engraved trigger guard. Barrel retained by one slide, original ramrod.

A very unusual gun, we can find no evidence of Beever’s Patent.

Metal work in very good condition with most finish apart for the butt plate, stock with a long split on underside and losses on edges. Ramrod missing the last couple of inches.

Circa 1840
